residential house cleaning?

does anyone have any idea of what the average rates for home cleaning services are. i am aware that it will depend on factors such as size of home, job duties, and frequency. any info or stories will be helpful.....thanks a lot

That depends upon where you are located. I live in a small Midwest city where the going rate is between $10.00 and $12.50 per hour. My brother in the Boston area pays over $35.00 per hour and has trouble getting quality service at that rate.

It also matters whether you hire someone directly or hire a service such as Merry Maids. The local franchise quoted me nearly $75 per hour. Their justification was that their crew would take less than half the time of my regular gal and they'd do a better job. I tried them. They were pretty fast, but not as thorough. I told them, "No thanks."
