One of my neighbors brought up a bunch of cookies and candy.
Which was really sweet of her to do and the couple things I had were very good.
My youngest daughter, had a cookie an a small piece of fudge, with in 10 minutes she was throwing up and turning red.
I knew what the problems was--the stuff was baked/made using soy milk, she is allergic.

So, If you made baked goods using soy or some thing besides "regular" milk would you tell the person you are giving the stuff to? If not, you really should. I know people don't really think about it when baking and giving.

I know they didn't do this with any "evil" on their mind.
I probably should have asked but I don't know anyone that uses soy milk in baking.
I know when I bake stuff and give someone a basket of it, I will tell them if it has nuts or wheat in it(ect)--I make some yummy bread and muffins with wheat but you would never know it by looking or tasting.
I did call them and ask if they used soy, just to make sure, and she said yes, thats all they use.

I'm sorry about your daughter. I don't think your neighbour had any malice, she probably thought she was doing something nice for you.
in the future, you may want to approach the subject the way the issue of peanuts is now handled. ask if there has been any contact, or are there any in the "goodies".
I hope your daughter gets over it fast.

Yes, I would let the neighbor know that your child is allergic to soy products, but nicely!!

I would just let her know that your daughter was allergic to soy, she may not have known. don't get mad though, she didn't mean to. I would however tell her, but mention that they are good. Don't make her feel bad she tried hard!!

Personally, I was not aware that people had allergic reactions to soy milk, so for that I thank you, cos now I am.

But maybe your neighbour was not aware either. Did you consider that?

Just asking! ;-)

I don't think so. More and more people are using soy milk because it's healthier for you. It is up to YOU to ask.

How are they suppose to know, what your daughter can and cannot eat??

The reason I never give food as a gift. Best gift? A gift card .

I agree with you, she should have told you if she used some different ingredient, that's a little weird, why did she use that?

I think she should have told you. I would say something, maybe she would think twice about doing that again, to someone else.
