Yes, it almost looked like an oval moon wasnt it?, like an egg.
It is Saturn and Mars that is accompanying the moon. It can be seen by the naked eye, but with a telescope, the rings will be visible. Here is one write up.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
A Full Moon and the mighty ringed planet Saturn will converge for a delightful skywatching opportunity Thursday night and into Friday morning.
Both objects can be seen with the unaided eye, and both become even more glorious when viewed through binoculars or a small telescope. Saturn's proximity to the Moon makes it easier than ever to find.
The pair will rise together around sunset, with Saturn just above and to the right of the Moon. They will travel together into the night and high into the sky.
A small telescope will reveal Saturn's rings. The planet is currently as bright as it can get and also has its rings tilted favorably for viewing from Earth.
-------------------------------------
and another write up.
- Twas the night before Christmas in a sky filled with stars… And low on the horizon are the Yule Moon and Mars! That's right. It's the Full Yule Moon, and arriving at the same time Mars reaches opposition. For many viewers, the spectacular pair will rise with Mars less than a degree south of Luna…
------------------------------------
and another:
This year, Mars is closest to Earth on December 18th, and at opposition on Christmas Eve. (The evening before opposition, December 23rd, the full Moon will pass less than above Mars.
DECEMBER 24 MARS IS AT OPPOSITION AT 3 PM.

Yes the full moon is beautiful tonight and the sky is mostly clear around here in the Caribbean. Mars is the planet near the Moon. Yesterday was very close. The Orion constellation is also in a good position in the sky with the famous 3 kings of the Orion belt and near the majestic Sirius (the brightest star).
Feliz Navidad!

It's the most beautiful red color I have ever seen! It's Mars, from what I understand, because the news said that Mars would outshine Rudolph's red nose on Santa's flight.
What a lovely Christmas Eve.
