The very first person to eat a Turkey in England was King Henry VIII. He had six birds brought back from America.
All the present flocks of turkeys in England are said to be descended from the original six turkeys brought to England during the reign of Good King Henry.
What do or did people normally eat at Christmas in the past and present?
The original bird eaten by the poor in England from the Middle Ages onwards was the goose. There is a song which says, "Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat, please put a penny in the old mans hat." This rhyme/song suggests that the poor probably had to sing 'carols' in order to raise the necessary cash to pay for their Christmas bird, the common goose.
The food you ate at Christmas very much depended upon which class you belonged to.
The poor ate goose, the middle classes ate turkey and the wealthy and the aristocracy ate beef.
Starting from about the 1840s and the publication of Charles Dickens book "The Christmas Carol" when we are introduced to the idea of eating a turkey at Christmas, we all began demanding and eating it.
So, the turkey became a popular Christmas bird from about the 1840s onwards.
King Henry VIII as born here in Greenwich and since he lived in a palace called Greenwich Palace [now gone] my bet is that the first Turkey dinner ever in England was served up not a few miles from where I live, right here in Greenwich.

I'm making a turkey. I don't like duck, goose, or lamb and I can have beef any time. Turkey is special for us -- we only have it on holidays. I'm also making stuffing, rolls, green bean casserole, and apple pie.
