I'm going to give you the corny answer, because I think it's important for today's kids to accept that elderly relatives are as important today as they were when I was little.
I would read a book. Teach how to stitch a hem. Give them a cup and saucer and tell them the importance of a cup of tea well shared with a friend.
A nursing home is an extension of home, and children should learn that the loved one is no less loved because of where they live.
That's what I think!

Go out and enjoy life because it goes too fast!!
Have fun, do not hurt anyone, take care of each other. Work hard, be just, promote peace. What goes around comes around. Don't save things for "someday"...sometimes someday never comes. Be independent, rely on yourself. Don't care what people think. Read. Dance. Sing. Be silly. Make a commitment...and stick with it. Love. Be nice to the "little guys". Leave good tips. Treat others like you want to be treated.Take care of yourself. Forgive and forget.
I am only 36 and am lucky enough to realize these things now!

It would have to be a desperate situation for me to be in a nursing home since I have 3 daughters and 3 grandkids who live with me (well, 1 daughter lives 2 miles away- but the other 2 bought a house with me) and I can't imagine them not taking care of me if I needed it. BUT, if that happened I would just tell them I love- even though they know that they are my world- and hug them to pieces! If it got to that point, I would understand that they did all they could before making a decision like that.

I would tell them to go home and do something fun for me, nursing homes are awful places, I don't want my Grandkids going there, even if it is to see me.

uhh, I'm single, no kids, and estranged from the rest of my family. I'd probably die of shock if anyone ever showed up to visit me.
