If you have ever been in a room where there are many computers or servers, you will find the place freezing cold. (Computers like to be cold, especailly laptops with a small fan).
Depending on where you live I would think that a plastic cover would create moisture around the PC. Something your PC, does not need.
I have a laptop and desktop and all I do is clean with a special wipe for absorbing dust. And for the monitor, I use a window cleaner on the glass portion only. I use a small paint brush to clean my keyboard, and the inside of my printer. Plus a special wipe for dust on the outside of my printer.

We have 2 PC's and 4 dogs that bring a lot of dust, both PC's are on big desk's so I keep them cover with 2 old Bed sheet's when they are not being used.
Tha keep all periferials, Printer Fax, Surge protector's and all other things, such notes, pens etc clean also.
I secure the sheets with a lamp a top shelf and with a couple of heavy paper wheigts, you can use a small rock or something similar, whem we use them we just bring the sheet over the top, that keeps them clean and free of dust and moisture.
Hope this will help you.
Have a Nice Holidays and 2008.

Unless you have heaps of dust where the computer is, it's not that necessary at all. Once a year I just open my PC and get as much dust out as I can. I don't use a cover at all.

I don't know anyone who uses a plastic cover (in an office or with their laptop), but it depends on where you keep the computer, I suppose.

It might seem like an annoyance, but it does make a difference. When enough dust particles get clogged in small places, it makes the mechanisms stick. Then your hardware has to work harder to function, and they wear out faster.
