If the paper is simply going to be five paragraphs, you will not have a great deal of time/space to write an essay. The first paragraph should simply be an introductory paragraph with a thesis.
Example: "While the Iraq War and Vietnam War shared a few social similarities, their historical differences are significant enough to force historians and observers to treat them as independent events in world history."
Body paragraphs will alternate. If you are only writing five paragraphs simply do 2 paragraphs talking about the similarities and 1 paragraph talking about the differences. Or, do 2 talking about differences and 1 talking about the similarities.

How to start a c/c essay/paper:
INTRO PARAGRAPH:
- In your intro paragraph, make sure you have a clear, conscise, and strong thesis. Your thesis is the most important part of your paper because it organizes the following structure of your paper. The easiest way I find to write a c/c thesis is for it to list three things. The three things are in a ratio of having two contrasts and one comparison, or two comparisons and one contrast.
3 body paragraphs:
- Depending on which type you used. You write one paragraph on each of the three things. In a body paragraph you usually write in this manner, for every solid fact you support this face with an analyzing statement. At the end of each paragraph, you should have a good transition leading into the next paragraph. The smooth flow and transition of these paragraphs are very important in contributing to the overall effect of the compare/contrast paper, otherwise, if you don't it confuses the reader in identifying the contrast/compare parts and seems that you don't know what you are writing about.
Conclusion:
- The last paragraph, or the concluding paragraph, should summarize what you said in the three body paragraphs and restate your thesis in a different way.

As a college professor told me:" Tell me what you are going to tell me; then tell me and finally, tell me what you told me."
The outline becomes
Introduction
1. Take a position
2. Give at least three supports for the reason
Body
1. Paragraph. Support number one
2. Paragraph. Support number two
3. Paragraph. Support number three
Close
Copy and paste the introduction. Change some words to make it refer back to the body.
Having two characters is great! One looks at the dark side and the other to the Force (whoops! wrong topic) OK, the bright side.
Which are you? dark side or bright side? Choose, that's your topic/thesis.
Pick three supports. With doctors it can be cost of the job, likening their patients, charging their patients, being called out at night, families, giving to charity etc.
In each paragraph of the body, use one of the supports, give the bright and dark side, then tell/give your opinion which is better
Finally copy/paste the introduction and make it look back to what you said.
