The nastiest ones go in the Program Files, more exactly, in the System32 folder. Do you know why? You can't delete files in this folder because there are the important system files.
There are viruses that look like normal comp programmes (e.g. free wallpapers or screen savers) that, during installation, let you choose where to install them, in order to look more like normal. So viruses can install almost anywhere! But they prefer C because it's harder to delete them from there. Oh, but if you have a good antivirus they don't install anywhere and that's what everyone wants ;)

Confused by your question!!. Are you asking if your PC, becomes infected where do the virus or virues go, they can go into anywhere in your system. All depends on how the virus was written.

Or are you asking when you run your antivirus scanner, where do the viruses, go if found after the scan. They go into the "Virus Vault", of the antivirus scanner that you are using. You can clean out the vault by deleting and they will be out of your PC. Or you leave them in the vault.

Viruses don't go to any file. They a a destructive program the once installed it has the ability to regenerate its self and to spread to other unprotected computers.

It can spread via Internet, disk media but the most common way is by e-mail.

Protect you self and others by having a good anti virus and a good anti spyware program on your PC.

Well if it was detected in a virus protection program it would end up in a quarantine so that the files can't be accidentally opened up. There should be something in your virus protection to be able to clean the quarantine so its completely removed from your computer.
