Confused about halloween, it isn't exactly a "holiday" here in the UK. Christmas has a lot of fakeness and unadulterated commercialism attached to it, but at least we get a minimum of 2 days off work with pay, and then at least one more forr new year.
I propose a "Great Britain Day" to be celebrated on 2 February, the date in 1652 when the Act of Union joined England and Scotland together, making them Great Britain.

We get the holidays for all the festivals in India! But I wish to highlight the finest holidays being enjoyed with the great spirit of festivities, here under :
Hindu festivals are excellent days, if one is too religious to complete the day with all rituals and the best of all is the "DEEPAVALI", the festival of lights, in which every home is lighted with hundreds of oil lamps (in the traditional way!) all over the home which is also decorated with natural tree leaves with flowers all over!
Early in the morning by 4 to 5 am, they get up and all of them take a oil bath in hot water, wear new clothes, do a memorable "POOJAS" (prayers to the Goddess "LAKSHMI", the goddess of wealth for peace and prosperity and give and take various milk sweets (home made!), then burst fire crackers to enjoy the colourful morning hours in the darkness!
This day is mythological importance to say, that the Lord "KRISHNA" killed the demon king "Naragashur", who requested him that the people should celebrate this day in memory of him!
Then they go to the "MANDIRS" (temples) to pray the Goddess again and reach home to receive all the greetings and offering of sweets from friends and relations and do the same to all people in the neighbourhood! Really it's a most colourful and wonderful festival of India!

I know this isn't a holiday, but an awesome day is April Fools! I look forward to ppl making an *** out of me and vice versa. Also, I love Halloween. The more descriptive the costumes the better.

I think Halloween is the best day ever. October 31st is the only day where you can put on a Freddy Kruger mask, knock on stranger's doors and get candy without getting beat up or sued.
