I have added more RAM, updated to Norton 2008 virus protection, defrag, ran a registry clean up and tried spybot, but the computer is still slow. Can anyone please give me anymore ideas to speed up my slow computer.

Thank You

If you haven't run disk cleanup recently, do so. The main cause of older PCs slowing down is filling up the hard drive. Aside from that, you might want to try a system optimizing program like this:

I'll bet your out of ram. Dell 2400 came from the factory with 256 megs. That was enough 4 years ago, but today XP needs at least 512 megs, and a gig is better.

Next you might want to take a look at the msconfig utility and see just what's running in the background.

To control what starts with Windows:

Click Start and then Run. (Vista – Start>All Programs>Accessories>Run). In the run box, type "msconfig" without the quotes and then hit "Enter". This will open the System Configuration Utility. Click the "Startup" tab. Now remove the check mark from any and all programs that you do not want to start or "boot" with Windows. Now click apply and then click OK.

You will need to restart your system. When the system starts you will see a box stating that you used the Config. utility, put a check in "Don't show this box at startup".

That should do it.

Do not remove any check marks from your security software. You want it to load with your operating system.

is ur cpu really old? does it use an old OS. try buying a better graphics card and see if u can get a new cpu but the bad thing about this is it could cost like 250 for a good graphic card and like 300 for a new cpu u might as well get a new lappy and if u can afford it downgrade to windows xp "media center edition i think that that one is the best one" if u have like 700$ to spend buy a dell or hp or apple but if u downgrade form vista to xp the software warrenty wil be expired but u could psrtition the drive into evenly split partitions and install xp on the computer but if u get problems with the xp partition u wont be able to call customer service since they will have u registered under vista and not xp and they wont help unless u pay like 100$ so make the choice best for your budget.
