Don't worry about what she thinks. We always do the same and open 1 gift. Have done so for 40 years.

Merry Christmas.

Some people do not like to accept new things because they are afraid. Honestly it doesn't matter when you open gifts that is not what is important about Christmas. Enjoy your holidaya & that sound like a wonderful tradition that I wouldn't mind trying one year.

Because people don't like things that are different or unfamiliar. When I was little we always got to open 1 present on Christmas Eve and it was always a pair of pajamas to wear to bed!!! Keep doing you who cares about what other's think of what you do.

My way or the highway... people are like that in all aspects of life unfortunately. My husband and I gave each other our gifts when we bought them. I have had my gift for weeks... and he has had his for about a week. No biggie.
