He would be a liberal. To remain in power he ordered the murder of thousands of innocent babies. And when it came time to kill Jesus for being merciful and kind he passed the buck to Pilate.
He also believed that freedom of speech only applied to his side and he raised taxes on the hard working people yearly. Then he made the tax code so difficult people had to travel to the place of their births to register for the census. He was the perfect Liberal.

Neither. Most liberals don't believe in the Death penalty. And, Democrats wouldn't have sentenced a peace maker (Jesus) to death. King Herod would have been a GOP member who sold his soul to the devil for gold and power just like the rest of the GOP did along time ago. The GOP loves torture and authoritarianism. The Liberals and Dems hate torture, tyranny and authoritarianism. We liberals fought against it during the Revolutionary War.

You don't think Liberals or Democrats know the Bible or go to church? Come on, are you really that naive?

First, since Christian scriptures refer to several Herods, I'm assuming you are referring to Herod Antipas who ruled Galilee and Peraea during Jesus' lifetime.

Secondly, I'm assuming you are using "liberal" in the sense it is used in 2007 in America. (Using the term "Democrat" is utterly meaningless in this hypothetical speculation.)

Given those assumptions, you could describe him as conservative in that he kept the peace; liberal in that he provided employment by a number of government building projects.

Keeping the peace was no mean feat. He was caught between Rome and his subjects. The ways in which he kept the peace were to not tax his subjects excessively, follow (at least outwardly) the Jewish law, and make sure Roman soldiers were not required to be a presence in the daily lives of his subjects. His wife prompted him to be a little too ambitious, and that led to his being deposed by Rome well after Jesus' death.

Let's see....the dusty old history books say:

"Herod had complete authority, and he used it ruthlessly. He established an enormous secret police force, brutally killed anyone suspected of plotting against him, and created Roman peace by slaughtering all dissidents."

I'd say he had GOP written all over him, wouldn't you?

He was the "decider", had his own patriot act, and slaughtered lots of little dark people.

Co-incidence? I don't think so.

Prepare accordingly.

He was a war monger which definitely falls under the ranks of neo-cons. He was also pro torture. Starting to sound familiar?

Given his liberal lifestyle and the way he "got rid of" those who spoke against his liberal lifestyle, I'm gonna say the guy was a liberal.

Please don't take history out of context. To do so is ineffective and quite possibly harmful.
