What is there in a name?

I'm going to assume WET means white entertainment TV, gee, how subtle!

When a group of people have dominated a society for so long and to such an extent, those excluded in mass communications find ways to create programming that represents a way of life and a representative cast that isn't represented in the dominant media. Currently blacks and to some extent Hispanics (Univision, etc) have found such outlets. Indians (native Americans to those of you not of this group) are among the groups who have yet to find such a voice.

So, what is the point of whining about not having a WET? Are you threatened by the sight of people other than those you are used to? Deal with it, most channels are primarily WETs and others have long had to deal with what you're whining about, except they were coerced for years into believing that what all those WETs portrayed was "right" and what they were living was somehow "wrong." Now they can know that faces that more nearly resemble theirs are equally viable as media icons. Why can't there be a WET? Get real!

EDIT-- Someone comments about the small percentage of shows that might headline non-white characters. They imply that others are saying the other channels don't have non-white shows. Of course they do, and some are quality shows. But often the shows present a slanted perception of non-whites, and historically, the presence of shows headlining non-whites in positive ways has been few and far between. I hope for a day when programming will be balanced, some shows almost exclusively one race or culture, just as some neighborhoods are, and many shows are mixed, and that the stereotypes prevalent in many major network shows are discarded. Until then, those not in the "dominant" group need outlets that provide positive views of their worlds and not views through distorted eyes.

YET ANOTHER EDIT: I realize the way I phrased it was saying you were whining about it, sorry. I have had these discussions before and was actually envisioning some of them. I didn't intend to make it personal.
PS- I'm not a fool, so chill on the name calling yourself, okay?

There are but they always hire the actors who are rejects from the BET channel! If WET would follow the same rules as BET, we'd be O.K. but the NAACP would come down so hard and we don't have the guts to stand up and say "go away". Did you know that on BET there is a legal discrimination based on the "balance of discrimination" concept. What a crock!

Because W has every other channel and is the majority. BET is an expression of that particular minority's common interests.

Why does everyone think that normal public stations are dedicated to white people? That is just stupid! The Cosby show, Martin Lawrence show, Wayons Brothers, The show with Erkle and countless other so called black shows aired on the public channels that are supposedly dedicated to whites. BET is solely dedicated to the black society an it is the only channel I Know of that is dedicated only to one race. It is just as ofensive to me, as a white person, as a channel dedicated to whites would be offensive to a black person. Great question, and I am sure this will be a hot debate.
