It is depressing when you are alone because you know it, from your past, as a happy time for rejoicing and being with people you know and love.

You don't have to be depressed if you make up your mind not to be. I have always been single and I'm an old hand at being alone for the holidays but I find ways to keep busy and I don't get lonely because I have two wonderful friends that love and care about me and will call me tomorrow to wish me a merry christmas.

And I'm sitting here looking at my snoring hubby, in his long johns, on his recliner--thinking-"dam, Christmas was more fun when I was single"!! Guess it's a matter of perspective! Hopefully, it'll be better tomorrow when the kids get here!! But for now I have the "fur kids" who are playing. There's your answer!!! Get a kitty, put up a tree--trust me-there will be a circus in your living room!!! And now his kitty Mooshka has joined me at the computer just to watch the arrow!! Sometimes the little things in life are the biggest! Do you have nieces or nephews? Get into their day tomorrow. Trust me --- it will be okay. I 'm married and am spending Christmas Eve doing this!!!

It is always hard when the focus of a holiday is largely on something that you (even if only temporarily) do not have around you, like family and close friends. If you do have other family and close friends around, just not a girlfriend or wife, count your blessings and be grateful for what you do have.

I'm glad I'm dogsitting, so I'll have furry friends around me. They don't know about Christmas, but that's ok. I'm going to be hanging out with the dogs, since I'm dogsitting (my friends are away and my family lives elsewhere and I, too, am single.) It'll be over soon, though. I'm treating myself to some of my favorite things I don't get very often. Are you in a position to do something nice for yourself? If so, do.

It is depressing to you because you are focusing on your singleness and having self pity. Go out and do something for someone else and stop focusing on yourself. Go visit a nursing home and spread some Christmas cheer. They don't get a lot of family visiting at Christmas because we all get to caught up in ourselves and our busy lives. It might cheer you up in the process.

Remember, if you take two lonely people and put them together, you can cure both loneliness. The secret is to search out other people who need friendship and form bonds, it is the fastest way to make the world a better place.
