I plan to go into Horse Management as a career when I'm older. The only problem is I have no clue on how to get started. I know obviously I'm going to have to take some sort of class on horses, and breeds, and riding etc. But I was wondering if I would need some sort of special liscence. Because what I want to do is own a stable and do riding lessons with them, maybe some shows and breeding. Does anyone know what I need to be able to do something like that? And also how much money it would cost to start it up? Please and thank you, this is something I really want to do so any information would be very helpful.

There are more than a couple of colleges with horse management programs. Colorado State University, Lamar Community College, California Polytechinc State University, San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly), and Feather River College are colleges with great horse programs that come to mind.

When you get further along in your career, there are special horse instructor certifications depending on what type of training you do. However, for most diciplines, this type of certification is optional.

Before that though, I would check out Pony Club and 4-H as they usually have people that give instruction on horse care, breeds, management, etc...

Hope this helps!

It's going to be more than just a few classes. The best way to start is find a stable/farm that is somewhere near you and go there. Talk to the owners and people who work there and find out what is involved. Owning a stable takes time and lots of it. Not to mention, money. You may discover that you like one part of the management area more than another. Start with the basics and talk to the people actually in the field. If there isn't a stable near you, check on line. You'd be amazed at the number of people who will answer your questions honestly, directly 'from the horses mouth'.

The more hands on you get the better. ALSO make sure to check out the TTouch site for horse massage, being certified in that can be very lucrative. It's sometimes called the Tellington Touch, but if you google TTouch you should be able to find the main site online.
