I went once. Just make sure you go in with your vagina nice and clean or else he'll think your like a bum. And it won't be embarrassing. Know that it's just his job.

I think the exams are awkward, regardless if it's a man or woman doing the exam. I have always gone to a male doctor (my family doctor) for my exams and he was nothing but nice, gentle, and understanding. He knew I (along with every other woman in the world, I'm sure :)) hated getting the exams done, because I would get so anxious, so he would do them as quickly and gently as possible and would talk to me the whole time to try and take my mind off my nervousness. He would even say how it is unfair to women to have to go through such exams (I liked that he acknowledged and respected how weird these exams can be) and how men have it easy...that would always make me smile and help me feel less anxious. I've also heard it's better going to a male doctor, because they tend to be more gentle. Female doctors know what does and doesn't hurt (through personal experience themselves) so they don't tend to be quite as gentle, whereas men doesn't know what hurts, so they are gentle with everything. Also, you don't have to get undressed with the doctor in the room...the nurse will give you a gown to change into and leave the room for you to change. During the exam, a nurse will be in the room with the doctor.
My experience with a male doctor has been great. Try not to worry too much about it. Go to your family doctor because he/she can do the exams as well. If you do go to a male gyno, make sure you feel comfortable talking to him. Good luck and hope this helps.

I prefer a male gyno, but thats just me. I've had one female before and she was not very good. She was quite insensitive to me, and I didn't like that at all. That doesn't mean that they are all like that. I probably just had a bad experience, thats all. And don't worry, you won't have to undress in front of anyone. And there is usually a female nurse in the room too when you get examined. I've had a few occassions where I was alone with the doctor - no nurse in the room, but nothing happened except a regular examination. But usually there is a female nurse in there with you and the doctor. Its no big deal really, and you'll get through it just fine no matter if they are male, or female.

I've had female and male doctors and I am more comfortable with the men. Don't worry, a female nurse will be in there with you. It actually isn't embarrasing at all. The exams go by pretty fast as long as you relax and everything is ok. As for undressing, you don't get dressed or undressed with anyone in the room. When the doctor and nurse are present you are covered with a little sheet unless they are checking you. It seems awkward but you'll be fine. Good luck!

I had this discussion with a friend of mine, who is also a doctor, the other day and we both agreed that theres something about the field of OB/GYN that seems to suck the compassion right out of a female doctor. Not all are like that but I'm telling you, as a doctor myself, I would prefer to go to a family practitioner of either gender, a nurse practitioner or a male OB/GYN first. If you are 15 you could very reasonably have a family practice MD do the exam. Alternatively, you could see if there are any nurse practitioners in your area that could do it. I have always found nurse practitioners to be very considerate and competent and in fact thats the type of provider who did my first annual when I was in college.

You dont need to undress in front of him. A nurse will come in and give you a gown and you will change into it alone. When the doctor comes in you will already be laying down. I go to a male gyn and he is better than the woman i went to. He is more professional and gets everything done real fast without any chit-chat. There is nothing to worry about.

I have seen 2 male gyno in my life , the 1st one had no class and hurt me. The second one was even more gentler than the women gyno's I have went to. As far as embarresed it's all a state of mind. The 1st time you go in of course you are uncomfortable and hope they get it over with quick no matter male or female but you have to remember that they have seen it all. They look at Vagina's day in and day out. Yours is nothing new to them and hopefully you will find one that will talk with you before and will be gentle.

I have always gone to a male OB-GYN. They are MD's and they have all been very professional. There is always a female nurse in the room when they are examining you. You will also have some private time with the doctor after you are dressed to ask questions or to discuss your condition. You should not be concerned. Ask your mother or a close friend to accompany you if you feel uneasy. They can stay in the room while you are being examined. Good luck.

Most gyno are males, you are feeling that way because its your first but don't worry there is a nurse in the room. Try to relax by taking deep breaths, relax your shoulders, legs and focus on something that will enhance your mind for the experience. The examine doesn't hurt a little uncomfortable that's all but once you get past the first couple times, you'll be just fine.

I have had A male and A female, your there for A check-up not A date, and he or she is there for the same reason to
check you and to make sure your ok, so just relax and remember this is just to see if your healthy. Sometimes
I do think A man is better because he has short finger
nails and rounded fingers, women attend to have longer
finger nails and more pointed finger tips, it's A personal
choice I guess.

A male doctor is as professional as a woman doctor. Both went to med school and are decent people to consider. A lot of male gynecologists feel discriminated against because they don't get very many patients when they are good doctors.
