It seems if you give to charity all the time, adopt poor children, and try all you can to protect the environment... but you vote against the Welfare State... Liberals call you selfish and a bigot.
But if you have never given to charity, hoard all of your money, and never think twice about the environment... but you vote for the Democratic Welfare State... you are a charitable progressive and a truly good person.

Great argument.

Well I can add "not able to form an argument" to the Liberal mindset.

Lettie D:
But you vote for the Welfare State don't you? That is where the judgement lies.

False, for all I need to do is find one person to refute the statement and the entire statement is false.

You paint a rather simnplistic picture of things. I will admit you can uncover a person who feels that way, but that does not make them representative of liberals, just as a person who wishes to despoil the countryside for short-sighted profit is not representative of conservatives.

Politics, like life, is far more complex as it is not uncommon to hold seemingly conflicting views, as they make sense to you

You're generalizing too much about both parties and creating stereotypes of the party members. Therefore, there is no way to answer that question. I am Liberal. I give to charity and have an adopted son who came from a poor background. I also recycle use the cost and energy efficient lightbulbs, use paper instead of plastic, among other things I do for the environment. And I don't think anyone would call me selfish or a bigot. No one I know does. And if someone does not do the things that I do then they are not a charitable progressive truly good person. You are putting Liberals and Conservatives in separate little boxes. You can't do that. That is being bigoted.

What is this imaginary "Welfare State" that we are all supposedly voting for?

Are you have a Scrooge Pre-Christmas Wet Dream or what here?

The only "welfare states" I see are in the EU and they are going gangbusters with their economy and their poverty levels are far lower than ours.

Yeah, you can go look it up. The EUs share of the global economy exceeds the United States and they are for more inclined to tax citizens and distribute wealth.

Go figure.

But don't worry, it'll NEVER happen here.

PS: We are a selfish country by the way. Our per capita charity to other countries is among the lowest of all industrialized nations (dollar amount more, per person amount very low).

I call you nothing but out of date on the issue of welfare. I must say this 20 times a week. Welfare was reformed. Nobody can collect welfare for more than 5 years in their lifetime and two years if they are healthy. They must go for job training and prove they are looking for work.

Have you done a study on who gives to charity and who doesn't? Apparently not. I vote for my own reasons which have zero to do with welfare. I view you for your own words which are misguided.

There is no "welfare state" in America to vote against. There are only a few TEMPORARY relief programs like state unemployment insurance (6 months) or TANF (60 month LIFETIME limit).

It pains me to say it but your statement is far more correct than it should be.
