Other than religion.

It seems like crazy outspoken religious folks are giving the right wingers a bad name, so now I'm looking for a few of the normal, logical ones to defend their position.

And if you're just gonna say "Nothing is wrong with gay marriage" then don't bother.

Several people mentioned that they didn't want to be paying for the tax dollars for the benefits that gay married couple would get.

How is that any different than them paying THEIR tax dollars for the benefits that straight married couples get?

I really don't think it is up to anyone to say that it is wrong. It is a personal decision that does not effect anyone else except the two parties involved Of course as you well know it can be made illegal. But as I have discovered just because something is illegal does not make it wrong but on the same note, just because something is LEGAL does not make it right either.

The same thing that is wrong with regular marriage. It's a 50% failure rate and should have been recalled as a danger to society years ago. Well...okay that's a bit sarcastic but still it's partially true. From some of my gay friends a civil union and or hand fasting were fine. However when the significant other is barred from the hospital room, is not given the same legal protection and heck even the tax breaks it seems a bit off even for this conservative. And now since individual states are making up their own laws and standards just crossing state lines blurs benefits and legal status jeshhh... Simple solution is any couple that marry are joined in a civil ceremony and those that wish a religious tone would conduct a marriage ceremony in their church or temple or whatever after.

Definition

The definition of marriage has always been between a man & a woman. Even in polygamist situations, the man marries several women, the first wife does not marry wife number two (except in the same since as "when you marry a person you marry their whole family.")

If a state wants to change the definition, that is one thing. But I am against gay marriage being forced upon a state.

Having said that, if there was a vote, I would vote to allow gay marriage in my state. But I think I am the minority & most would be against allowing gay marriage.

What is right with it? Marriage is an institution between one man and one woman. This is biblical. Marriage is not a man made idea, but comes from God.
You want reasons other than religion. There are no other reasons, if you go back to the origins of marriage.
So again I ask, what is right with gay marriage?

Well it's not a marriage. As far as i'm concerned it's a partnership. Marriage by definition is the union of a man and a woman nothing else. But I believe partnerships should have the same tax and other benefits married couples enjoy.
The union of a gay couple is not the same as a union between a man and a woman. It is different by definition, and therefore is not the same.

Change takes time. Throughout recorded history (up until the last 50 years), homosexuality was considered abnormal in most societies. People don't change overnight and core beliefs are the most difficult to change.

My only argument against gay marriage is that the Social Security system is already in dire shape. Recognizing same sex marriages would further stain a system that was never intended to cover the current level of recipients.

I don't mind it, even though I am religious. What I do mind is that when they get married, they will get tax dollars in the form of marriage benefits. That I oppose.

Be cause as a single person I NO NOT GET ANY TAX BREAKS. If gay get married this would be one more group of people getting tax breaks that I don't. This is also a reason the government does not want to give gays the right to get married, They will not come out & say it, But it is
The governmaent well not admit that the resaons they are against it is not is not based on religion.

there is nothing wrong with gay marriage!!! But it is going to take time for peoples to understand it. I think there are too many misconceptions about gay and gay marriage. We humans sometimes if we don't know about something we seem to like to get away and get rid of it so it doesn't exist. We should all get educated about it. The best way.
