What height is a basket-ball hoop supposed to be?

Can anyone tell me what is the height supposed to be from the ground to the bottom of the back board or the bottom of the rim?

10 ft. from the ground to the rim of the basket.

well with younger kids its usually 8ft.. but college and pro is 10ft..
