that depends upon the type of tree u would like to plant, u need to think about the tree when it grows big.
depending on the size of the growth measure the correct distance so that the branches do not come to each other.
it all depends upon conventional wisdom.

The answer is simply four. Trees are planted in the earth and earth is a sphere. That means we already know we're talking about a sphere and not a plane. The four trees would be widely spaced around the earth at the tips of a tetrahedron.

If we are talking a two dimensional plane, then the answer is clearly 3 planted in an equalateral triangle.

If we are talking in 3 dimentions you could in theory plant one
below the plane in a hexigone arrangement so it would be 4.

If you are talking about a single three dimensional surface the answer would be 4.

On a flat two dimensional surface like a piece of paper the answer would be three forming a equlateral triangle.

On the surface sphere the answer would be 4. Their positions would form that apexes of a tetrahedron.

Very clearly the answer is TWO. No matter where you put them, they will both be the same distance from each other.

Ps, how's this in Physics....I missed that
