anything spilled on a leather jacket just doesnt come off!...but the cows roll around in mud all time...n nothing happens to their hides?

Maybe it proves that the more careful you try to be with something, the more likely you'll mess it up!
Just kiddin' of course.
I thinks it's because it's a living tissue that is constantly being regenerated while it's on the cow.

The hides are living and it is not treated in whatever the tannery soaks it in.
