Ok, I just got a new computer today. As expected, I was forced to downgrade my computer from vista to XP. Anyway, I have always had a Ethernet cord running from the router downstairs (which is connected to the modem) up to my room. My old computer was able to connect to the internet without a problem with the same cord. My new computer also has built-in wireless internet capabilities. And for some reason, on my new computer, it is unable to detect the Internet protocal TCP/IP. I have tried every wizard on both my new computer and the host computer. Please, I need your help. Thanks

Make sure you install the motherboard drivers. They most likely have the ethernet drivers you need. I recently built a computer and absent-mindedly forgot those drivers, and was ripping my head off trying to figure out why.

When you "downgraded" (in my opinion, upgraded) to windows XP, you wiped out your ethernet drivers along with everything else. You will need to reinstall them. They should be found on a disk that came with your computer/motherboard. After installing the ethernet drivers, you computer will be able to utilize the TCP/IP protocol for the NIC card (where you are plugging in this ethernet cable). If you arent sure about where to find the drivers or how to install them, contact the support desk for your computer mfg.

Make sure you got wireless enabled on the laptop and in the services.msc

click on start
click on run
type: services.msc
scroll down to wireless and make sure that is set to enabled and automatic.

Make sure you have the correct drivers for your wireless nic card also.

Check to see if your system is set for wireless, instead of wire hook up.
