His policies in my opinion is what made Canada strong at the beginning of the 21st century, yet Canadians continue to treat him like he's some kind of monster.

1. The GST (which was implemented in 1991 under his government) was a crucial part in reducing the budget deficit and transfering it into a surplus.

2. Free trade with the United States and NAFTA (1992) gave North America an open market which is currently strengthening our economic position and fuelling our GDP growth, as Canada relies on trade.

3. Meech and Charlottetown accords tried to sew Canada into one piece by getting Quebec to accept the Canadian constitution. However, Trudeau destroyed it.

The icing on the cake was his environmental policies. In 1990, he signed an acid rain treaty with Bush senior which reduced emissions in both countries.

All this and Canadians treat him as the worst Prime Minister in our history? Why Canadians give him no respect?

Brian Mulroney was treated as the worst prime minister because he was presumed to have been involved in widespread corruption.

Trudeau didn't destroy the Meech Lake and Charlottetown accords; Meech Lake failed because Manitoba and Newfoundland refused to vote within the deadline, and Charlottetown failed because the public voted it down in a referendum. Trudeau was long out of office by this time. Personally if I had to blame someone for it, I'd blame Elijah Harper (Manitoban MLA) for refusing to vote.
