Just yesterday I formed the basis of a plan to organize a benefit fund raiser for at least two of the volunteer fire depts. in my community.
I'd like to help them offset some of their out-of-pocket- expenses like fuel, damaged clothes and things like that.
the bar owner where I DJ is most supportive of the idea. With any success, we'll make it an annual event.

I am proud of the community of which I reside. It is small, diverse, accessible to traffic, and friendly. Commercialism has not run rampant. As far as I know no politician has his hand in the cookie jar in terms of receiving kickbacks. The City Council members are upstanding and honorable. There is a strong spiritual community of all faiths. I find that to be the strong fiber that maintains our community to healthy and wholesome standards for children. We have top-notch standards of education for our schools, we have a world-class hospital, culture and fine restaurants. But in the final analysis, how we treat our children is a reflection of the value and progression of life in the town in which I proudly live. Improvements are not necessary at this time.

I am a true pet lover. One of my biggest pet peeves is that dogs and cats run wild, reproducing and causing even bigger problems.. There isn't an SPCA here and the dog catcher will only come out after numerous calls.
They have a PAWS here but as a member of PETA I believe that animals shouldn't be put down just because they cannot immediately find a home for the animals.
There is also no city transit system here. People who would normally work are forced to not work due to the problems of unavailability of ways to get to work. If the city is concerned about lack of employment, such as they are, they need to look into public transportation.
People without cars cannot work, get groceries, cannot go to medical appointments and live their lives in normal fashions. Taxes are paid by all of us, even the ones who scrape to pay theirs.
These are just two examples of the misuse of public funds. You can pay a dogcatcher, but he works when he feels it is relevant. You can save millions by having no public transportation, but you lose more than those millions you saved by paying those who cannot work.
Communities problems can be solved by listening to the people.
Why doesn't that happen?

I'd replace some of the city windbags with trees, leaving more oxygen, and less trash.
