Blair Thomas, Penn State back was a pretty big star back in his day. Runner up in the heisman, Bowl MVP, Senior Bowl MVP. Selected #2 overall by the Jets, failed to live up to his hype. He was probably one of the biggest RB draft busts of all time.
That being said, Ron Dayne was a 4 yr starter broke team and NCAA records, and never lived up to it in the NFL, so no I can't name a bigger star at running back who stunk it up in the NFL as bad as Dayne. Dayne is yet another Big Ten back that couldn't cut it in the NFL, with names like....

Try watching Cedric Benson play. That is a prime example of pulling a Ron Dayne.
Im not going to disrespect the great Archie Griffin at all, so I wont go into specifics about him.
