I miss them much! my brother was a steelers fan and I was an oilers fan. Back then, they were in the same division as the steelers. My brother and i got in many of fist fights over it!
Of course I always had to lose the fights because he was the older brother with the tv in his room so if I ever wanted to watch football again I had to let him win...lol. FOND MEMORIES...

Like everything else I remember growing up, I tend to share a sentimental memory of old teams that are no longer in existance. The Oilers produced some great players (Earl Campbell and Warren Moon) and have left their mark in league history (remember that second half collapse to the Bills in the early 90s?). I do miss them even though I never rooted for them. Oddly enough I miss the "old" Cleveland Browns. I was actually glad that city was able to revive that franchise and bring back a historic franchise to loyal fans. On the same note, I'm glad Houston was awarded a new franchise but if I could have had it my way, I would have kept the original nickname. I guess all we can do is take all those memories and keep them close to our hearts. You never know when another team might disappear.

Yeah I really do miss them, I wish the new Houston team would have been allowed to use the name(I think it is still trademarked by Bud Adams). Sure the Tennessee Oilers sounded really stupid but when they were in Houston I miss it. Sure not really intimidating but well let's look at just a few team names on that one.
The 49ers, great to celebrate the Gold Rush but who would be worried about people who were going to an even over 100 years in the past? I mean come on if the people were ALIVE they wouldn't be scary.
The Dolphins, are we playing in water? I mean A) Dolphins are one of the most harmless water creatures(mammals not fish so have to specify animal) and B) they would die on land.
The Jets, what am I afraid you will fly me somewhere, or afraid that you will fly away. To be honest they never intimidated me in name.
The Browns, named allegedly for a boxer(not even a football player) but rumor and most believe they were really named for Jim Brown, and I think he was retired at that time. Either way why would I be afraid of him now?
So in short there are plenty of names that aren't intimidating so Oilers was pretty cool in the league. Yeah I miss them.

Well, I missed Houston Oiler as well.. The only reason why they got the name "Oiler" is that Houston is the headquarter of some of the Big Oil companies in US... and I even the old Houston Oiler fight song, "Houston Oiler!! Houston Oiler!! Number One!!" and Now they're are the Tennessee Titans..

I never thought the "Oilers" thing was very intimidating either. Then the Oil derrick on their helmet, and the pastel colors. Not an intimidating uniform.
(Probably topped only by the original Tampa Bay uniforms with the pretty colors and ambiguous Buccaneer"
I do miss them however.

Being a true die hard football fan I do miss seeing the Oilers. They had some good players there especially Warren Moon.

Yes, definitely.
Warren Moon, the greatest black quarterback in history.
Earl "The Tyler Rose" Campbell, awesome. Remember the game where he had all those guys hanging onto him & he just ran right out of his jersey?
Did you know Earl Campbell built a stadium, and very nice I might add, for his old high school in Tyler? It's right at the end of Boon Street next to the Rose Garden.
Thanks for this question. Being born in Houston, but living in California now, it did bring back some memories. Wow!!

When I think about the Houston Oilers the first thing that comes to mind is Earl Cambell , he was a Horse !!! I loved the way he use to just run people over , he would never go side to side just run you down that was pretty sweet .

I liked them when they were the Oilers... Now they just another rival to one of my favorite teams....
Oiler could be another name for rough neck,, the hands that work the oil rigs in TX and OK etc... so they can be intimidating
