I had a mechanic look at my brakes about a month ago and he said they were still in pretty good shape. He said they were squeaking just because they arent the highest quality parts. The squeaking seems to get better, another person said I have about 75% left which I'm assuming is for the rotors? Is it normal for the brakes to keep making noise or should i just change the pads.

The 75% is for the brake pads. Also the mechanic you spoke with is right about low quality brake pads usually make that squeaking noise. I would go to your local auto parts store they should have some Brake Anti-Squeak Compound that you can put on the pads to stop the noise or if you want to stop the vehicle better you can buy new peformance pads such as Bendix and have them installed. Bendix Ceramic brake pads minimize brake noise and brake dust.

Hope this helps!!

There are two common causes of squeaky brakes.

One cause is, as your mechanic said, cheap brake pads. Some pads tend to very briefly stick to the rotor, release, and stick again very rapidly at the frequency of the squeaking noise.

Another cause is relative movement between the pads and the caliper or supports. There is a lubricant made for the purpose that can be applied to the back of the pads. DON'T GET IT ON THE PADS OR ROTORS!! Good brake pads often come with a little bit of this lubricant.

the 75% meant the pads...and that's good
sometimes the brakes squeak when they're dirty (brake dust) and yes, they'll squeak with low quality parts. Take the car to a certified technician and have him/her check them out. If you need them changed, then the work should be guaranteed and if you still have problems, then they'll fix it without charging you again.

The 75% is for the pads. Sometimes you can put an anti squeak compound on the back side of the pads ( the side against the caliper piston) and get it to stop. The compound should be obtainable at most auto parts stores.

If the noise bothers you, keep the brake dust cleaned out, or get a better quality pad installed. Frankly I'd just wait until the time comes to change them, and next time don't go for the cheapest pads you can find.

75% is for the pads. Try sanding any glaze off of the pads and put anti squeal brake lubricant on the contact points (any point of pads that touch metal, except side of pad in contact with caliper) of the pads. Good luck!
