litter? I haven't touched the cat littter box ever since I found out I was pregnant at 4 weeks, but for these past 8 weeks (I'm 12 weeks) my boyfriend changes her box but for a cat she poops a lot and we feed her a can of wet food only each day! Anhow, my concern is could simply inhaling the smell of her feces which is sometimes very strong but touching it or anything cause toxoplasmoses? Also I walk barefoot a lot on the kitchen floor and I am wondering if getting her feces on my feet by accident could cause that also? Sometimes she cleans out her box but makes all the litter splash all over the kitchen floor and my boyfr4iend has to clean it up. And 4give me 4 being so ignorant but is it okay to wash out her cat food bowl with my hands no gloves and a sponge? (I just never use gloves for washing dishes, but I always wash my hands thoroughly afterwards)? and again is it okay to kiss my cat on the top of her head, hug her hold her etc. and sometimes not even wash my hands right after?

if you have had the cat & the litter all thses years you prob already have toxo. It doesn't affect most people, usually only those w/already weakened or comprimised immune systems.
I used to work for a vet; 3 of the girls I worked w/got tested (2 when they got pregnat, 1 because she has Lupus & comprimised immune system) All 3 were positive for toxo. However like I said it doesn't affect them bc they already had it & had been exposed to it years prior from owning cats.

Don't worry. You can handle the cat, kiss it, cuddle it, wash its dishes, just don't handle the litter box.

How can I avoid toxoplasma during pregnancy?
Here are some tips to help you avoid exposure to toxoplasma during your pregnancy:

Do not allow your cat to go outside your home where it may come into contact with toxoplasma. If possible, have someone else take care of your cat while you are pregnant.
Have another family member change the cat litter box and then disinfect it with boiling water for 5 minutes.
If you must handle the chore of changing the litter box, wear rubber gloves to avoid contact with the litter and wash your hands thoroughly afterwards.
Use work gloves when gardening and wash your hands afterwards. Cover children's sandboxes when not in use (cats like to use them as litter boxes).
Control flies and cockroaches as much as possible. They can spread contaminated soil or cat feces onto food.
Avoid eating raw or undercooked meat (or poultry) and unwashed fruits and vegetables.
Wash your hands thoroughly before you eat and after handling raw meat, soil, sand or cats.
Avoid rubbing your eyes or face when preparing food, and wipe the counter clean afterwards.
Avoid eating raw eggs and drinking unpasteurized milk.

Enjoy your kitty and your pregnancy!

How disgusting. I have 10 cats and 8 litterboxes. I scoop each box three times a day and no one can tell that I even own cats. Dump the old litter, clean the box, and fill it with fresh litter. Then make it a habit to scoop it twice a day. Your poor cat, I'm surpirised he hasn't revolted and started using the bathroom on your carpet.

No you can not. Your cat likely doesnt even have it. Most indoor cats don't and if he did you are likely to be immune to it already. You could take the cat to the vet and have him test for it. Yes you can wash the cat food bowl, she doesn't poop in there does she? You can show your cat affection without worry. If you are this nervous, I would recommend getting the cat tested.

Your fine. You have to have your hands in there urine or there feces. Touching, kissing ect. will not hurt you. but will help you when your baby comes so that the cat doesn't feel resent full.

It is absorbed through the skin... so unless you inhale it (as in snort it), no. Remember, it is rare... and you should take precautions just in case like wearing gloves... and yes, you can still touch your pet, just not their feces.

is your cat an indoors cat? cuz if she is then you dont even need to be concerned. I, was concerned too, but my cats vet told me he was fine, and toxo is not very common.
