Torque it's all about the jack rabbit starts that some folks really like. When they take off from stop lights they have to be the first one to take off. Slowing down is important to folks like Mercedes now. Take a look at some of their specs on braking systems....

I do I want to reach highway speeds quicky when I get off the ramp so I waste time speeding up while everyone else is running me off the road.
