Very good question.
Yes you were in the right in throwing that idiot out of your home. He was disrespecting you, and in his own way he was trying to say that you "are not one of the people" I get this crap all the time and I'm sick of it. What hell am I supposed to sound like? The majority of the people speak English. We are bombarded by English on the television and radios. If a black speaks English then that makes us some kind of sell out? This is stupid thinking.
I got that crap a lot when I was young. I was brought up by a single mother and she pointed out that if I spoke street talk, it will make it difficult to get jobs, or even relate to people. It is good to have good communication skills. If you are going to speak English then speak it well. I did learn to speak very well, but the people in my neighborhood had a problem with it. They kept saying that I was trying to sound, and act white!
What a trap this is for someone black. If we try to do good in our lives and advance ourselves our own people say "You are just trying to be, or act white?" Crazy!
And if you don't do anything to advance yourself People say "See! Black people never make the attempt to make something out of themselves, and their lives."
Its a trap; a total trap.
Yes, you were right to throw that fool out of your home.

You are completely correct for throwing this obnoxious person out of your home. He sounds as if he was jealous of the fact that you choose to speak well, because you think well of yourself.
You were very responsible and caring of your family by asking him very calmly to escort himself out of your home.
I think it is important for everyone to speak well, no matter what language they speak, or what skin color they are. There is too much slang in the world today, I think a lot of it is due to texting...sadly, I must say.
Best wishes to you and your family for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

THANK YOU! I'm half black, my Mum is white and my Dad is black, and people say they have NO idea where I come from, because not only does my Mum have proper grammer, but so does my black Dad!! And ALL of my friends talk like they're from a different planet! I'm also British. And my siblings have great grammer too! And MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

no, you were not wrong i think you handled the situation very well. Better then i would have! The color of your skin does not reflect on how you should act based on what society expects from your ethnicity. It seems that he as trying to reinforce a common stereotype amoung the african american community.

You did the right thing. Had you allowed your guest to stay, you would've sent a message to your nieces/nephews that they should tolerate that kind of behavior.

Wonder what he would think of all the blacks in UK, who speak the King's English.
You have to ignore it most of the time, but not in your own home.
Brava!
