For some reason, my External Hard Drive won't turn on. I have a 500GB Western Digital. It was working just fine a few hours ago, but now, when I go to turn on my laptop, the green ring on the front won't light up. I tried two different outlets and two different computers. What's going on? I've only had the hard rive for a few months. :(

1. turn everything off
2. check ALL cables. make sure everything is plugged in where it should be. (that's the problem 99% of the time)
3. turn on the power to the computer and external drive.
4. if it still doesn't work, your power supply may have gone bad. (It happens)

It could be just like the one I had for a few months. The power circuit on the hard drive went faulty and no power is getting to the drive. I even tore my external drive out out the case and tried it directly in the computer, nothing happened, deader than a door nail.

I am only assuming they outsourced to a different supplier for the electronics or their suppilier outsourced the work and they are getting bad quality products mad cheaper some where else. This is one reason I will not reccommend WD hard drives for any reason..
