We got some with a lot of other things from New England from someone, and in a pot that said "Boston Baked Beans" had red candies inside. I wanted to know if anyone has heard of this and what the candies were.

Yes, they're candy coated peanuts. Look a little like a "real" baked bean - thus the name.
