First, call your Agency on Aging. The National Hotline number is 1-800-510-2020. This number will rollover to your local office. They have persons in each office that will listen to what you have to say and then they will either refer you to Adult Protective Services or tell you what else needs to be done, it all depends on what services you have locally.

All states have laws against Elder abuse and the laws are getting pretty stiff and so are the sentences for guilty parties.

If, in fact, the son is drug addicted, there is probably some financial abuse taking place, also. This needs to be explored and can be, by Social Services. They will also explore the possibilities of physical, mental and emotional abuse. It all pretty much goes hand in hand. If she's continually falling, it sounds like there is a physical problem that needs to be addressed, and quickly.

You will be doing this Senior a big, big service. I have seen this happen a lot in the last few years and the only real help they get is from the outside of the family. The Senior is unable to help themselves due to fear, for a lot of reasons.

Thank you for your caring attitude for this Senior. You may very well be saving her life.

If you live in the USA call Family Services - it will be listed in the yellow pages. In larger cities they are called Dept. of Family Services or, Dept. of Family and Childrens Services.
Don't get put off by the word "children" - just call the number - and you can be 'anonymous' if you wish (just tell the operator) BUT DO TELL THEM what you believe is happening in that house occupied by the drug addicted son. Good luck to you!
You are a good person to want to help. CJ

We have a number to call in our county.
It's listed in the front of the phone book where all the state, city and gov't
numbers are listed.
Child and elderly abuse line...or something.
It's so sad. Let me look......

I found this on-line:
http://www.dshs.wa.gov/geninfo/endharm.html
ph#: 1-866-363-4276.

It's good to know people still care enough about their neighbor. Good luck, and Mele Kalikimaka!

Adult Protective Services. However, in this case you might wish to call the police if you feel honestly the woman is in harms way. It is against the law to abuse anyone! And unless you are exaggerating the situation it sounds like it to me. Please call them and at least talk to an officer, Tonight!
Oh, you don't have to give your name either if you are afraid the drug addict might do something to you.

Call your local police department and ask if there's a particular agency that handles elder abuse. They may go out themselves, but obviously, something needs to be done about that poor lady before she ends up dead.

Whomever you call you might want to be prepared to record or videotape any future conversations with her son. If everything goes according to plan you're going to be at war with your neighbor.

You might also want to be prepared for his mom not appreciating your intervention. Frequently happens that way.
