Is there anything else than the basic model with styrofoam balls?

You could always try a computer simulation.

You cannot make a scale model which scales down distances and sizes in the same model.

The distances are too large. If these are scaled down to manageable sizes, then the Earth and moon become too small.

If the model is not permanent, you can consider using balloons.

You can buy one made of stainless steel and gold plated balls for planets... but you wouldn't be able to afford it... better stick with the styrofoam.

Go to a craft store in your area or call one nearby. If they don't have something, I'll bet they can tell you who may/does.
