Why is it that every year at Xmas we are so busy trying to fit it all in? I mean the lines at the local pharmacy today was insane! Malls are at their limits! Friends are blogging how overwhelmed they are with obligations, buying, finances I am not particularly religious person at all, but this is not what the season is all about!

your right. this is a holiday for kids!!!
I don't understand that answer to my question! But this holiday is not for kids my dear. It is the time of the year where we are suppose to be at our best, practice random acts of kindness and forget the commericialism of it all!

Well, me being a religious person, this answer may not help you but as one, I had to make a mental decision to do and not do what I think is the way to celebrate Christmas. For one thing, when I get the Sunday paper during the Christmas season with all those "advertisements" for all kinds of stuff, jewelry, etc, I immediately take all of them and throw them away - don't even look at them. If you don't see them, you don't buy them. I buy or make some small things for each of the people who have blessed me all year. I make time to visit my loved ones. And then I go to a special candellight servide at my church where I can worship God and thank him for His son Jesus, whose birthday we are celebrating. That is about it. You have to make a mental decision to keep the Christmas season calm and peaceful and you will be so surprised at how others will respect your decision - maybe not at first but eventually they will. I could not stand the stress any longer so I don't "do it to myself" anymore.

I know exactly what you mean. I hardly feel any Christmas spirit any more. It seems everyone is so into the commerical side of it. To me it about Jesus's birthday, and getting together with my family and friends. That is what makes it special to me. Has everyone lost sight of that?
It actually makes me mad when someone asks me "what did you get for Christmas?". The last person that asked me that , I said, " I got to spend time with my family", and walked away. It also doesn't help when before Thanksgiving the stores are putting out their Christmas stuff!! Geez!
Sorry to vent on you when you were looking for an answer.
I think a lot of people do things out of a feeling of obligation maybe.
So anyway, Merry Christmas to you, concentrate on what it means to you , and take a deep breath ....... : )

Because people are greedy. Most people love Christmas because they get free presents. They put up Christmas trees and don't know the meaning of the star at the top of the tree. If Christmas was just a day to observe the birth of Jesus people would shove it over the shoulder like people do on Presidents Day. Its not that important. I thought I was the only one that was concerned about this.

I finished everything by mid december and the past few days the only thing I've "needed" to do was go grocery shopping. I didn't even leave the house today. If you don't want stress, there are ways to work around it. I did not want it this year and it's so nice to be spending my Christmas eve listening to christmas music and playing on the computer and spending time with my dog and boyfriend.
