Would you sing 'Krishna bless America' or pledge allegiance to 'One nation under Allah'? If not, would that make you unpatriotic?

I wouldn't sing to anyone particular to bless anything, being an atheist. But no of course theat wouldn't make me unpatriotic. Patriotism is a dedication to the best interests of one particular nation - and therefore in the 21st century is a highly dangerous and dubious tenet at the best of times. But it has nothing whatsoever to do with allegiance to any particular theological or religious construct

I may look rather like Sophie Tucker, but I can't sing "God Bless America" like she could.

And when at the AARP meetings we pledge allegiance to the flag, I simply remain silent while the term "under God" is said by the others in the room. Nobody has criticized me for it, and it's quite possible nobody has even noticed.

I'm not one of those people that gets all uppity over the word God. I don't even mind using it in context. In my opinion, the usual understanding of the term is a fictional character, but having been a philosophy major in college, and still something of an amateur philosopher, I can use all sorts of words that I don't necessarily believe have any physical reality. We philosophers are weird that way.

As an Australian I don't have to think of all that Imaginary Sky Swooping Thingie (ISST) stuff.
I'm fairly sure Advance Australia Fair doesn't mention ISSTs and I KNOW the Oath of Allegiance doesn't.

In Oz we don't really go in for all that sorta stuff.
Most of us think the belief in ISSTs is rather quaint but not many of us take it all that seriously.

As an atheist and individualist I don't say either of them right now.
Patriotism is not a good thing. It is a means of social manipulation, so that all members of a population blindly accept what their leaders tell them to do or think lest they be considered "unpatriotic".
Well you know what? I'm unpatriotic and proud of it.
