Everyone always talks about the risks involved in a cesarean.. I was wondering,

high risk of infection after healing too. you can also tear. i had a 3rd degree tear when i had my son, and two weeks later am still on medication and having difficulties using the bathroom everytime. i would think with diabetes, you wouldnt be able to take some pain medications when in labor...im not sure though, but you would have to be monitored closely.

With diabetes there is a higher chance of the baby being really big. If that is the case there is a risk of the baby getting stuck and going into distress. However, with diabetes the lungs of the baby develop slower and the vaginal squeeze as they call it helps clear the lungs of all the fluids so vaginal delivery is preferred. I don't know of any risks that obesity causes for a vaginal birth. I would be classified as obese and wasn't told that I had any risks for actual delivery because of it. The problem with preeclampsia and vaginal birth is that often times if the preeclampsia becomes a problem BEFORE labor actually starts. If it starts to progress into HELLP syndrome they HAVE to get the baby out before the mothers liver and kidneys shut down. There is no time to waste on inducing labor. If it is early on in pregnancy they will try to wait it out as long as possible which often keeps them from inducing and having a vaginal birth before a Cesarean is absolutely necessary.

with diabetes the risk is greater with a c-section, since it can cause problems with wound healing. With obesity a c-section is more difficult to preform, the Dr has to cut through a thick layer of fat to get to the uterus, and often must be preformed using a classical incision rather than a bikini cut.

preeclampsia is risky either way, and since the only cure for it is delivery Dr's will take the baby either way. induction and natural delivery is still preferred, since pain meds can have an affect on BP.

all in all, a vaginal delivery is better is almost any pregnancy.
