It's Christmas Day, but I feel so bad! This is horrible.
I'm not Christian. Christmas for me is spending a wonderful day with all my of family, at one of their houses. We cook, we eat, we talk, we have a good time. But Christmas has turned so commercial. It really pulls you in. You feel like you NEED a good present, and you NEED to get someone else a good present. If you don't, you feel disappointed and grumpy.

Someone get me out of this commercial-x-mas bad spirit. I feel like I've sinned or something, because I feel so selfish. I got a small, cheap, crappy present from my parents, who really did not know what I actually wanted...I didn't like it, so now I feel horrible, since I know that I am so lucky to have parents who have the money and the time to make Christmas happen. I know that there are people out there who don't have that privilege. How could I be so greedy?

Someone help me here. Help me get over the commercialness of X-mas.

Thank you all so much. Merry Christmas.

I would say a good way to get over the commercialism of christmas is to find a way to give back. Not with presents to your family, but by sacrificing some of your time for others. Volunteer at a homeless shelter, cook a meal for a less-fortunate family you know of...be creative! even something as little as caroling or baking cookies for neighbors is a great way to focus on others instead of yourself. you'll feel better if you give back in a less "presenty" way.
but ultimately, i'd look up the christmas story. do you know why we give presents in the first place? it's to remember when at the birth of christ (hence the name "christmas"..."christ" and "mass" meaning "birth" or something along those lines), the magi (or wise men) brought gifts to the baby King. That's why we give gifts. Look up the christmas story as well on a christian, reputable site. that should also help your understanding and appreciation for the true meaning of christmas.
merry christmas!

Realize that even if you love Christmas with all your heart, you'll still have bad feelings about this and that. That's life; you take the good with the bad.

One way to overcome the commercialization of Christmas is to give to someone less fortunate than you. You can still give to Operation Christmas Child, Heifer.org, the Salvation Army, or other charities, like Angel Tree (there are two Angel Trees, one Salvation Army, the other a prison ministry).

Another way is to discover which parts of Christmas are most important to you and work to make them a reality in your life. If your parents can give you want you want, ask them in a few days. If they can't...well, you already know you are fortunate to have parents that love you. If being with family is ultimately more important than getting the right present, well. focus on that.

God bless and Merry Christmas!

I totally know how you feel! I feel the same way! I didn't get anyone any Christmas presents this year! Only Xmas cards. Mostly because i couldn't afford.

If i was rich as f**k i would give them the best Xmas presents ever! If you cant afford and the money is just stressing you out you don't need to get them anything. Its Christmas!! Enjoy it! It is ABSOLUTELY not being selfish

I dont feel too bad. My friends say that its ok and that all that counts is the thought. Dont feel bad!! Your friends and family should understand its not about the presents.

If you didn't tell your parents what you wanted for Christmas (since they probably asked you a million times) then you shouldn't be disappointed you got a "cheap, crappy present". Since you are aware of the commercialness of Christmas then just be thankful for everything you do have and just enjoy spending time with your family. The commercialism can only affect you if you let it.

I have the same feeling, girl. I feel so selfish, ungratefull, and greedy. I have everything this christmas. I have like, 57 presents under the tree. And it actually makes me want to cry, thinking that there are some people out there that can't afford or dont have the time to have a christmas.

Try reading the original story of Christmas.
The reason that little baby was born to this world wasn’t for Christians, or even Jews.
That baby was born to bring the non-believers and sinners closer to God.
I find it interesting that you consider yourself to be a non-believer and a sinner. –lol
In reality this Holyday was made as a gift just for you.
Isn't that a little bit better of a present?

If you won’t be too offended I would like to pray for you.
(That’s Christian for sending you good karma and well wishes)
May the Lord our God give you peace of heart and understanding of your own spirit.
Hope to see you on the otherside

Ohhh please don't worry
its fine to feel let down at christmas

and they are many very ungrateful children in the world who dont know what christmas actually means apart from presents, but you obviously do. .. you just need to get the balance right.

so go and enjoy yourself for the rest of christmas!!
