I have been having trouble with my dishwasher lately. My apartment manager has had the maintenance man look at it several times and he cannot find anything wrong.

When I put dishes in, the bottom rack comes out clean, but the top rack comes out dirtier than when it went in. When I use the Cascade pouches with Dawn, the soap does not open all the way and the pouch barely dissolves. If I use liquid, it opens and all the soap is used.

I think it is a water pressure thing. The maintenance man said that some of the other residents had some issues with water. There was a clog in a hose, but that was supposed to be fixed. I know that the temperature of the water is hot enough because when I rinse the dishes they get almost too hot to touch. The water might just be too hot.

I checked the drain and it had had some things on it, but after I wiped it clear, I still have the problem.

I know that the maintenance man should fix this, but I am tired of waiting. Any ideas?

You are in an apartment, I have to assume that you have what they call a "contractor grade" dishwasher meaning it is one of the cheapest ones you can get. If so it does not have a wash arm (spinner) in the top rack. It has only one wash arm in the bottom under the bottom rack and has a retractable cone in the wash arm that is extended by water pressure. A lot of times this cone gets stuck and does not extend, therefore you will get the normal water pressure out of the bottom wash arm and the bottom rack will be washed, but the water does not reach the top rack. So, if your machine works on this design, make sure it is not stuck and make sure you do not cover it with dishes when you load the dishwasher. This can also be caused by low water pressure. If the pressure is just not high enough to extend the tube then you will not get water to the top rack.

My guess would be the spinner for the top rack is not working. It's a tough problem to pin down cause you just cant observe it while its going. Make certain that nothing is blocking the water flow to the top spinner and nothing is keeping it from spinning.

I agree... the top thing isn't spinning.... could be blocked by a long spoon... could be anything....

Or it could be broken.
