I just raise my eyebrows, open my eyes wide, and sort of lean my head in. Most people understand my motion to mean "excuse me?" Some people think I sprained my face.

I usually say "I'm sorry?" (if i genuinely didn't hear it )
or "Excuse me?"
( I usually use that one if it needs to be re-phrased, especially useful for a rude or inappropriate Q if I say it with a surprised facial expression....LOL~!)

I am hearing impaired so I always say ,"Excuse me?" Or "Pardon?" while putting my hand in asl gesture that I cannot hear!
