Idk if it's part of a birth name or nickname, but what it made me think of was revving up a car. And I could see that being someone's nickname... I was friends with someone who had been called Road since she was a little girl, so why not Rev?

Reverend also came to mind, but it seems too obvious for you to have bothered asking this question. : P
