Ok, first off, I have a Gateway 500 xl. This computer only has pci and agp grahics card slots. I was wondering, what will happen if I put a pci-e card in the agp slot. Is there anyway that this can mess up my computer. What will happen. If it works will a pci-e work better than an agp video card. Any help/insight you could give me would be greatly appriciated.

A PCIe card will not fit into the AGP slot. Your best option is just to get a good AGP card.
Good DX9 cards= Geforce 7600 GS or GT AGP
Best DX9= ATI X1950 Pro or XT AGP, Geforce 7950GT AGP
DX10= ATI HD 2600 Pro or XT AGP

An AGP will not fit in a PCI-e slot. If you found a way to fit it in, it still wont work. I would advise upgrading to a new motherboard if you want to use PCI-e.
