Somewhere in the middle. Bad spelling is not good for whatever future career you want, so it is good to practice and get it right. Good spelling makes a message much easier to understand. Tori Spelling has a big nose and not much talent.

I do not think it is necessary to correct people, however. It will just annoy them and they will write you a nasty e-mail with lots of typos. Come to think of it, that could be funny.

Why should they be given slack? For being ignorant or lazy?

I don't necessarily point out spelling errors, but I do feel free to believe that bad spellers (especially ones who seem to purposely misspell things like 'skool' and 'neways') are poorly educated and should be taken less seriously.

it really depends on the setting, the relationship and the goal.
in ya i don't think it's important but i think the people correcting the spelling are just trying to help the people with bad spelling. you know like telling someone they have spinach in their teeth or their slip is showing. i don't think you would really appreciate a textbook with lots of misspellings or a newspaper with lots of misspellings. i doubt you want too many in your grandma's obit or even in bills you are sent in the mail, or from other places where you want accuracy, like your paycheck or bank statement. it all depends on the context.

lol, i usually point out the mistakes, but i can easily read it though. but it's not like you're going to print this out and turn it in for an English assignment or anything, it's just on the internet... so, i guess it doesn't matter how you spell on here. ;D

Yes, spelling is important.

But pointing out errors usually doesn't do anything but cause tension. Nobody wants to hear that they type like a friggin moron.

I'm a fantastic speller, the kind of person who in any group of 100 is the top speller. (based on a nationally normed test I took in 8th grade)
It is a pretty useless skill. I am a great secretary.
Terrific.
Math reasoning is by far a more useful and profitable talent.

Depends..
on a resume ..........yes, spelling is IMPORTANT
or if you are critical of others spelling and spell something wrong while pointing out.
I see many here who abbreviate..to me, it often shows laziness
