4(1/2) = 4/2

5(1/3) = 5/3

4/2 - 5/3 = 12/6 - 10/6 = 2/6 = 1/3

Let the amount (price) be x

4 , 1/2 pounds = 2pounds cost = 2x
5 , 1/3 pounds = 5/3 pounds cost = 5x/3

2x = 5x/3
2x - 5x/3 = (6x - 5x/3) = x/3

therefore difference between the amounts = 1/3 pounds
