plain, I really don't think it's necessary to paint. It's unhealthy for your nails and they'll turn an ugly yellow colour. If you DO happen to get you nails discoloured, use lemon juice to whiten it. I'd rather keep them natural, and it's such a hastle to repaint them. Instead, just put a clear layer to protect them from scratches and such, you really don't need to do anything else to them. Oh yea, and DON'T use dark colours if you're planning to paint them. Again, it can leave an unattractive colour.

My nails are painted with OPI polish in Dutch Tulip, which is the perfect true red for Christmas or any other time you want bright red nails.

i like eath tones with some lacy plant existence painted in sometime. regularly I purely pass with the goofiest call on the rack. Like, Las Vegas pink or Indian Orange, Very Berry Parfait..... Nail Polish is exciting. LOL, Pam

plain...i rarely paint them...though i've been wanting bright green or orange nail polish for some reason.
but they look fine either way.

Painted! Rimmel Underground Hard Edged. It's looks black but in the right lighting it reflects purple/red/green. Yeah, it's perdy sweet :)
