Because the capital was picked long before LA became the major metropolis it is now. In fact the most important city in CA in the 19th Century was San Francisco.

Capitals are seldom picked just due to size but rather vice-versa. That is to say capitals often become large simply because they are the capital. Atlanta Georgia is a good example of this.

LA didn't become as big a town until much later in the history of california

aha! have you ever even been to sacramento? how can you ask this? have you ever been to LA? if youve seen both then its obvious why sac is the capital. ... and another reason is... thats just where the city all began.. southern california long ago wasnt nearly as populated as it is today.. didnt you take a us history class in high school???

Most states try to pick a capital that is more centrally located, and Calif. is a long state with L.A. way south.

Cuz if LA was are Capital imagine who our Governor would be.......It might be Paris Hilton.........It's all bout the BAY AREA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
