I know a woman who is very nice, however..well, CRAZY.I was talking to her recently, and she told me that she is about to begin training to be a flight attendant for the major airline that she already works a desk job for.
I find this VERY disturbing-she is NICE,however she drinks uncontrollably(DUIs),and has a history of violently attacking her husband and her teen sons. She was even detained once for trying to kill herself in front of her kids.As nice as I think she is, I am also very well aware that she just is NOT mentally stable.Obviously she has kept her act together enough to maintain her job for a year, but I am upset to learn that she would be considered for this type of a high-stress possition
I fly frequently, and I am very disturbed that she was even CONSIDERED for such a high pressure position. It makes me feel like this airline does not even CARE who they hire-I don't want to hurt her, but I feel this issue needs to be addressed with the airline-agree or disagree? How?

Actually, I only know her because I am her neighbor you ignorant, judgmental fool. Typical of people like yourself, drawing conclusions out of your ****. In fact, that is the only reason I even KNOW most of this stuff-she actually TOTALED my parked car when drunk (she was arrested this night as well) and her kids came to my house more than once when she was on one of her drunken rampages.
What line in specific are you requesting I draw, dear genius? I am asking the airline to be careful. If I were allowing her to drive me or my kids around, I could see your logic-however, I take the same precautions I would ask an airline to take-you sound just as drunk and insane as she is.

I am amazed that Desi has once again spewed more hateful crap, and has yet again come to the wrong conclusion....you haven't the whole story, so the venomous accusations you throw are judgmental, inacurate and simply wrong.
Hopefully less venomous and drama-creating people can answer from this point on

please call Children's Aid and ask them to check on her children.
if you ever see her get behind the wheel while drunk, call the cops.
i know it's hard, but you cannot let innocent people be hurt by her insanity.

Because its the best job he will ever have (but he won't get it back, thank God). Slater's is the story of a man too unskilled to take many jobs, so he took one that afforded him a false sense of power. When he didn't get his expected serving of power when confronted with a belligerent cow, he threw a full on drama queen temper tantrum and hilarity ensued. Except for the airline who lost at least $25k. And for him since he lost his job. Or the passengers he was supposedly "serving" whose flights were disrupted by the now-being-repaired plane. but it all had a happy ending when a job opened up for someone who wants to do it and knows how to act professionally. Anyone who has flown a few times has had to deal with a flight attendant like Slater. He's the kind of guy that kills an airline by driving away customers; both the ones on the receiving end of his "perceived power" trip, and those who witness it. It only takes one bad run in. I flew Jet Blue twice (2 legs of a round trip from NYC to DC) and I'll never fly them again because of FA attitude. That was before this fiasco.

And yet you choice to hang around her. Pretty hypocritical of you. Are you with her when she is partying hard, where do you draw the line. She is not going to fly the plane and I will hope that airline will take a look at her past history. Going for training is not getting the job.
Funny how you want others to draw the line, but you haven't had the guts to do it yet. How long have you known her?
Edit:
Ahh the crazy loon comes out. Mrs. Busybody in your neighbors business. Obviously you are a two faced. I bet she comes over your house and you just lap of her drama, while smiling in her face. As soon as she leaves you spread the gossip. Close your drapes and be more of a woman.
Edit:
Well I for one am not going to appease you. So I will tell you once again by honest opinion about your "none of your business" situation. You asked for it by the way.
You seem to get to pick and choice when you want to talk crap about this woman. Whenever she is coming over to you voluntarily you don't mind listening to her drama with a smile on your face. All the time knowing for well that this woman has issues. She obviously is providing you with some pathetic sense of entertainment in your life. She is nice as long as she is keeping you up with her drama. Niceness aside if you had a problem with her drinking you would had limited contact with her or perhaps if possible suggest she get some help. I personally don't do the drama, maybe that is just you.
Now for the flight attendant job. She is being trained. Trained does not mean hired. It is pretty high and mighty of you to assume that the airlines will look pass concerns that gave you something to yap about on your free time.
You are a busy body. Let the airlines do their job. You will find another person's business to stick your nose in. Most importantly sign up to be my fan, it is much better than following me around like a puppy.

your concerns are valid; however, the airline she works for feels she is a suitable candidate for the job. Although she works for the airline already, they may conduct another background check on her. If there isn't anything to disqualify her then there isn't much you can do about it.
Having worked for an airline pre-9/11 they do pretty thorough background investigations for security reasons, I imagine after 9/11 the requirements are tougher. If you feel that strongly either contact the airline or fly a different carrier.

Have you even considered that this job may be improving her state of mind?
This woman may be the kind who acts out badly in the privacy of her own home, but can be perfectly normal with strangers. She may just be an attention-craving drama queen with her family, but have another, much more normal side to her personality with the rest of society.
If she's had this job for a year, she's already "battle-hardened". It proves she's a lot tougher mentally than you give her credit for.
I've worked with a lot of people who seemed normal, but had quite interesting secrets. It seems that you have just seen this woman at her worst. However, if she's doing well in this position, it may be exactly the kind of atmosphere she thrives in.
The airline screens people for mental disorders. If she's going a bit bonkers, they'll catch it. Her co-workers are in a much better position to gauge her mental state of mind. If they start feeling uneasy around her, be assured they aren't shy about saying so to management.

This must be a difficult situation to be in!
I think you owe it to the passengers of potential future flights to make your opinion of this woman heard.
If I were you, I would write an anonymous letter to the company and let them investigate.
Trust me, with all the bad publicity that poor airport / aircraft security has, I'm sure they would take this letter very seriously and address the issues at hand.
Hope I've been of some help!
Merry Christmas!

disagree. the airline can handle their own problems. if she has a desk job and has sustained it for this long, she must be getting her work done. some people can handle work better than they can handle home life.
on the other hand, maybe you should talk to someone about the problem with her kids. that's a dangerous issue that needs to be addressed

Many practicing alcoholics manage to hold down their jobs. We can only hope her true colors come out in the psych evaluation.
Otherwise, we can only hope we never end up on her flights!!!

I agree with you 100 %....what if she flipped while in the middle of a flight? OMG!
I would definately say something. The airlines might even do a background check and find out that she has a criminal background....I hope they do!
Good Luck!
