I support affordable healthcare, not universal government funded healthcare. As a veteran who has been to a VA hospital, I wouldn't wish that type of poor service on anybody.
I imagine government funded healthcare as a cross between a trip to VA hospital and a trip to the DMV. Scew that, I'm greatful my job has a great benefits package.

Veterans DO deserve something. However, you are VERY much misinformed about the VA. The VA is given a budget each year. It "means tests" everyone who is ELIGIBLE to see IF and I mean IF they will be ALLOWED to access VA services. If so, which ones and for what cost. There are plenty of people who have served who do NOT get the access or care you do at all or for what you are paying, so NO, government health care is NOT the best run care there is.
My father is a WWII vet and HIS co-pays are higher than yours. I happen to be QUITE familiar with the VA as are the tens of thousands who served and can't get served in return.
A better example of government run health care is Medicare. Premiums 1998: $43.80, 2008 $96.40--up 120% yet benefits are not up that rate. ALSO for those on Medicare HMOs they saw their prescription drug benefits DECREASE to conform to the BOGUS "donut hole" the feds came up with. The HMOs are also making more of the things they used to cover for $100 or less in a co-pay cost the patient the entire 20% co-pay. Doctors are leaving Medicare because:
it's low pay
it's slow pay
when they try to balance the budget they do so at the doctor's expense--literally, reducing what they will pay HIM.

We already have universal health care, and we don't need more. I'm on the Army's health care system. I haven't seen an Army dentist in over two years. I guess that's what people want.
What the commoners don't realize is that the people peddling "universal" health care actually mean it as separate health care from theirs, not the same kind of treatment that the royalty get.

I don't think that the Health Care system in the U.S. is bad, I think it is top in the World.
The real problem is the Health Care Insurance industry. That needs a real overhaul. They have gain too much power over the Health Care system and telling doctors what to do.

Universal health care still has way too many kinks for us to find a way to make it work here. There are many stories of Canadians having to wait months in order to get in to see the doctor. I consider it a step backwards, not forwards in the realm of health care. There are other solutions that won't sacrifice the efficiency of our current system, we just need to explore them.

Because I've worked in a hospital and I know the government is responsible in unfunded compliance issues and mandates for most of the expense in health care

Health care 'provided' with the efficiency of the Post Office and the loving kindness of the IRS.
'nuff said.

Universal Health care is a bad idea. It does not work everywhere it is tried.
