I stole $1.257.86 worth of items from Kmart while i was employed there. When i was caught, my LP told me whatever items i returned, would be taken off the the cost of restitution. Not including the $200.00 maximum damages fee. i returned all items to the store, and i just received the restitution bill, and it said i owe $1.457.86. i dont understand this seeing as my LP told me the items i returned would be taken off the cost.

who did you return items to?
still new unopened?
get a receipt of any kind?
did you get in writing this agreement?
who/what is a LP?
so many questions and so few answers come back with more information and i bet you get more advise.

EDIT:
you returned used items and all you have is a security persons word on how this would be handled. you probably are going to have to pay full amount back. you need to contact who ever sent you the bill and deal with them, explain your situation and what you were told by the LP. hopefully they will work with you and i hope you learned a lesson. this could have cost you a lot more then the $1457.86, that much theft you could have done some time in jail.

It sounds like you should talk to the LP (whoever and whatever that is). Maybe it just crossed in the mail. However, it is possible that they may claim that the items were not returned in the same condition as when they left the store. It is very possible that they consider the items to be used and then therefore not resellable.

The restitution order comes from the court. It appears as the court was not made aware of the return. Its a simple matter of communication.

Maybe the LP lied to you so you could see what it feels like to get ripped off.

Only items returned in as new and resaleable condition would be credited.

If you returned, for example, clothing that you'd already worn, you won't get credit for it.
