Do you think of Doctor King's quote from 'Strength to Love":

"Science gives us knowledge, which is power, religion gives us morals, which is control"

In this light, don't we both need our counterpart, yes?

Religion uses our natural instincts for survival as social groups to expound on morals. Morals are an inherent part of our evolving psychology.

Science is knowledge built up from ages past and continuing into our future. This why we can build jet air craft etc.

caffeine High!! that explains a few things SophiaSeeker.

"Science gives us knowledge, which is power, religion gives us morals, which is control"

How about correcting Doctor King's phrase before going any further.
No offence meant but we are all only human.

"Knowledge gives us science and also power.
The sense of Spirit and Soul gives us morals which can give us self-control.
religion gives us dogma, which is control"

In the light of this I would ask which two counterparts are needed and which is to be rejected?

If knowledge is derived only from science, we are unfeeling pure logic creatures. If morals are derived only from religion, unfaithful professors of faith are sociopaths and we live amongst millions.

We need more than science or religion alone, and even combined, they alone do not provide the way towards greatness. This is not to say that they are worthless, simply that they are only amongst a greater set of tools to that path, tools that can be used properly, or corrupted horribly.
